First capped for Scotland in 1968,
Rea made a total of 13 appearances for his country and crossed
the goal line three times. He was born in Dundee and educated
at the city’s High School.
The West of Scotland hot-stepper
was a late call up for the 1971 Lions tour to Australia and
New Zealand and made ten appearances, mostly at fly-half.
It was perhaps this positional change that denied him the chance
to contest for a test place on the tour but Rea’s ability
in such a star-studded squad was never questioned and he returned
from the tour as a more complete player for Scotland.
