Thomas Geoffrey Evans was educated
at Pembrey Comprehensive School and Llandovery College before
continuing his studies at the University of North Wales, Bangor.
He played his rugby for a number of clubs, including Llanelli,
Bridgend, Neath and London Welsh. Evans was captain of London
Welsh in 1974/5 and was a lecturer by profession. Having represented
British Universities, Evans played on 7 occasions for the Welsh
national side - the first being in 1970 against Scotland.
In
1971, he was called up as a replacement for the British Lions
tour to Australia and New Zealand, playing in 6 matches.
A mobile loose forward and with plenty of prowess in the middle
of the lineout Evans pushed hard for a place in the third
Test
team. Had selection been based on cultivation of the most
prestigious ‘Chou
Chin Chow’ moustache his would have been the first name
on the team sheet. |
