Davies played the early part of his career at centre but, against his will, was pushed wider to wing where he scored the majority of his 20 international tries for Wales. With blistering pace and quicksilver feet ‘Gerald’ is another of the greats of the world game. He was educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Carmarthen and progressed through Loughborough College to Cambridge University.

He joined the 1971 Lions squad late because of Cambridge examinations but made up for his absence in style by scoring twice during the 2nd test victory against the All Backs at Lancaster Park, the first a magnificent 50 yard touch down. A sophisticated gentleman with a ready smile the Cardiff captain grounded ten tries and electrified the New Zealand public.
